LOS ANGELES – In Southern California, the oppressive summer heat makes it tough to balance comfort with saving energy. It’s no secret that more efficient AC can lead to savings, but installing upgrades can seem daunting for environmentally concerned homeowners. Researching sustainable building materials, recycling construction waste, and finding like-minded contractors can make driving during rush hour seem enjoyable.

GreenPoint Rated makes it easier on you by providing clear, accessible guidelines for achieving a greener, healthier, and more comfortable home. And now that the Green Label Rebate Program is offering homeowners in LA County up to $2000 in rebates for getting a GreenPoint Rated label for your home, there has never been a better time to make those energy efficiency and other green upgrades you’ve been putting off. Learn more about the Green Label Rebate Program.

The GreenPoint Rated label is issued by the nonprofit organization Build It Green as a mark of quality green construction. It verifies that your remodel was conducted according to proven green building standards. What’s more, the label is catered to individual homeowners’ needs! Considering a small renovation? The “Elements” label recognizes smaller energy efficient upgrades such as installing low-flow showerheads, planting native species, and insulating hot water pipes.  Pondering taking the plunge into large-scale construction? The “Whole House” label recognizes homes upgraded to significantly better energy efficiency and minimize environmental impact. Not sure if you can afford an upgrade? For a limited time, each label package comes with notable financial rebates and simple steps to streamline certification.

The Green Label Rebate Program is now offering a $1000 rebate to help offset the cost of getting the Elements label, and $2000 for the Whole House label. To get the ball rolling, a GreenPoint Rater helps homeowners navigate product choices and figure out what upgrades make the most sense for you and your budget (raters in the LA area are listed online). Then, saving money is as simple as completing an online application and waiting for approval.  Not sure where to start? The Web site lists some low or no-cost options that can get you on your way to the Elements label. Installing faucet aerators, for example, usually a service provided by local utilities for free, earns a point towards certification.

And, if you participate in the Energy Upgrade California program, you can get even more rebates. In addition to the rebate for getting the label, the Energy Upgrade California program is offering up to $8000 to help offset the cost of hiring a contractor to make your upgrades. Learn more at www.EnergyUpgradeCalifornia.org/LACounty.

It is an exciting opportunity for homeowners, considering recent studies find that eco-friendly and energy efficient homes are selling for as much as 8.5% more than comparable homes. Even better, homes awarded environmental certification through a third party sold for as much as 25% more. Energy Update California and the Green Label Rebate Program provide an opportunity to save money on utilities, take advantage of rebates for construction costs, and increase the market value of your home.

Be sure to take advantage of these rebates before the end of the year!
