LOS ANGELES — The Green City Fair brought sustainable festivities to Beverly Hills last Saturday.  This family-friendly event hosted by Tree People featured a variety of vendors, workshops, and activities. From native plant hikes to yoga, the whole day was an inspirational example of Los Angeles’ commitment to sustainability.

The main stage hosted cooking and edible landscaping demonstrations, a conversation with Paula Daniels, senior advisor to the mayor and a food and water policy specialist, and a special appearance by none other than Smokey the Bear!

Vendors presented earth-friendly products in Artisan Village, while instructors offered hands-on sustainability education at the urban watershed garden, nursery, and conference center. Children enjoyed entertainment and free food in the Kids Zone.

In the vendor section, G-Meter presented their commitment to energy monitoring and appliance control while Malibu Compost sold small bags of their biodynamic compost. Life Source demonstrated how their water purification systems “save money, eliminate the hassle and waste of bottled water, and transform tap water in clean, great-tasting water.”

Tree People seeks solutions for regional environmental issues including air quality, water importing, and the massive amounts of asphalt encasing Los Angeles soil. The Green City Fair was a successful step towards Tree People’s long term goal of “advancing a bold, long-range vision for urban development that will transform neighborhoods into sustainable ecosystems that function like a healthy, natural forest.”

Sierra Club Green Home encourages you to look for sustainable events in your community! These gatherings are a great way to foster friendships and focus on the environment.
