ASPEN, CO — The Aspen Institute, in partnership with National Geographic, will commence the 5th Annual Aspen Environment Forum on Friday. This four-day forum will bring together environmental leaders from nonprofit, commerce, academia, scientific fields, and government to engage in discussion and debate about how people will adapt to a changing planet due global warming. This year, the focus of the conversation is on new “climate normals.”

“We know the climate and contours of the planet are changing,” Chris Johns, Editor-in-Chief of National Geographic, was quoted as saying by Aspen Environment Forum’s press release. “How we adapt to these new parameters is a fundamental challenge we all face, and our success or failure will determine our future.”

As the UN Conference on Sustainable Development, or Rio+20, will conclude just as the forum begins, developments from the summit will likely be a significant topic as well.

Speakers at the forum this year include well-known thought leaders such as E.O. Wilson, Professor Emeritus, Harvard University; Stewart Brand, Co-chair and President of Long Now Foundation; Sylvia Earle, Oceanographer; Kerry Emanuel, Climate Scientist at MIT.

Forum passes are available to the general public, and Sierra Club Green Home will be reporting from the forum for those who cannot attend.
